Neck pain
Whiplash, sciatica, RSI, our London physiotherapists understand the complexity of neck pain.
What causes neck pain?
Neck pain can arise unexpectedly or as the result of an injury (such as whiplash) following an incident (such as a car crash). A pain in the neck is very often linked to headaches and migraines, backache, pins and needles and pains running down the shoulders, arms and legs. It can be an extreme irritant, and can have many side effects such as nausea and dizziness.
How we treat neck pain
At FitFor we use physiotherapy to relieve most types of neck pain, the most common being Neuropathic and Muscular. Neuropathic pain refers to pain resulting specifically from nerve irritation, as opposed to muscle or joint pain. The more common neuropathic pains such as sciatica are due to nerve impingement. Nerve pain is highly irritable and frequently needs medication to achieve relief.
Neck pain can also arise from a muscular strain or tear when a muscle is overloaded either due to fatigue, overstretching, repetitive strain or trauma.
At FitFor, an experienced physio professional will assess your injury and plan the most suitable treatment programme for you. We use soft tissue and joint mobilisation techniques to help restore normal nerve mobility and function.
How long does it take to manage neck pain?
Lasting recovery is our key objective. Some patients require a minimal number of sessions, along with advice to manage the injury and recommended products (such as orthopaedic pillows). At the other end of the spectrum, some patients may require surgery, and FitFor offer pre and post-operation treatments to maximise the success of the operation and make your recovery as quick and painless as possible.
